She did it! 12-year-old Grace VanderWaal beat out a pool of incredible contestants to be crowed the victor of 2016’s ‘America’s Got Talent.’ The little girl with the big voice and original songs has become universally beloved, and her fans went nuts on Twitter when she was named the winner.
Was there ever any doubt? Grace VanderWaal became the youngest winner of America’s Got Talent as the grade schooler blew away some stiff competition. It all came down to her against the Clairvoyants as to who would get the $1 million prize and a coveted Las Vegas show, and in the end, the future Taylor Swift came out on top! She covered her face and squealed with joy as her name was announced, bursting into tears of joy.
Grace captured the judges and fans hearts from her very first audition. She strode out onstage holding her ukulele and boldly performed a song she had written herself. That got her a golden buzzer from Howie Mandel and put her into the show’s main competition where she kept slaying it, always amazing us with her ridiculously talented songwriting skills and angelic voice. Simon Cowell even made the incredibly bold proclamation after hearing her perform for the first time that she was the “next Taylor Swift.” While that might have scared off some artists by setting the bar so high, Grace just kept bringing it every time she appeared! By the time the show’s votes were counted, it was Grace who won America’s hearts.
Here’s a fun sampling of all of the congrats and love Grace is getting from the Twittersphere:
Of course there were a few haters who were rooting for the Clairvoyants and other fan favorite Brian Justin Crum, but luckily there were enough fans quick enough to remind them that this girl is just 12 friggin’ years old and already writes and performs all of her own music! And she had the courage to get up and sing in front of millions of people! We think Grace is a total star and deserves all the good wishes coming her way after her big win.
